Hi and Welcome |

I'm glad that you could stop by for a visit. Let me tell you a little about myself. Born and raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, I taught art in Maryland and Alaska. I run every morning, find it almost impossible to pass by a gallery, a cookbook or an art book without exploring it at least briefly, and I have never been able to resist the collaboration between painter and painting. Painting is an endeavor with few rights and wrongs. The concept of what is or is not successful develops as the painting develops and what "works" one time cannot be relied upon in future situations. Although the painter is responsible for the eventual outcome of the artwork, the painting in progress shapes itself in many ways. Things visualized in your mind or in sketches can materialize unexpectedly on the painting surface demanding responses dramatically different from those anticipated. Every painting is an adventure. |

Finding a print of my painting, Witness, in the display case in front of the Salmagundi Club in New York City when we arrived for the 2004 AWS Awards Dinner was an unexpected surprise. |
